Demetrius Dwayne Hopkins is an American boxer born on October 10, 1980 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hopkins fought under the light welterweight division.

Standing at a height of 5’1” and with a reach of 74”, Hopkins is known as “the Gladiator” in the world of boxing. He is the nephew of Bernard Hopkins, the former undisputed middleweight champion.

Hopkins won the 1999 National Golden Gloves Light welterweight champion as an amateur. He also won the USBA light welterweight championship beating Mario Jose Ramos by a unanimous decision. By June 7, 2006, Hopkins knocked out Michael Warrick. By March 17 of the same year, he beat Steve Forbes who was known as The Contender TV reality show star in a unanimous decision. He also had a fight with boxers Jailer Berrio and Enrique Colin and won by unanimous decision. The fight against Berrio was known for its first round knockout.

By December 13, 3008 Hopkins contended against Kendall Holt, the WBO junior welterweight champion at that time and he lost by split decision.

Hopkins had a total of 30 fights in his boxing career, 28 of which he has won with 11 knock outs, one lost and one draw.

He was expected to make a comeback in the Latin Fury 9 fight against Hector Munoz to be held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City but he was arrested on a warrant for an outstanding debt on child support. It was said that Hopkins owes nearly $30,000 for child support. The arrest made him fail to appear in the official weigh in and caused him to miss out on his first boxing paycheck.
