Elvis Alvarez
Elvis Alvarez was a Colombian professional boxer in the flyweight division who was born on February 02, 1965 in Medellin, Colombia.
Alvarez turned professional in boxing at the age of 20. He took the WBO flyweight title and defeated Miguel Mercedes from the Dominican Republic in 1989. In the following year, in 1990, he vacated his title since he lost interest on the significance of the belt. However, realizing his passion for boxing, he came back and competed in 1991 and defeated the Japanese Leopard Tamakuma. He competed against Yong Kang Kim in 1992 but unfortunately, he was not successful in defending the title and lost. He lost again in 1994 this time to Junior Jones from Brooklyn, New York City. This was a fight for the WBA Bantamweight title. The match was his only American appearance which was held in the Friar Tuck Inn, Catskill, New York, United States and also his last.
It was reported that this 5’ 8” boxer was murdered in Medellin, Colombia last July 16, 1995.
