Roberto Vasquez aka “La Araña (The Spider)” is a professional boxer from San Francisco, Panama. He was born on May 26, 1983 in Panama City, Panama. His full name is Roberto Gaspar Vasquez Ramirez, but it is shortened for career purposes. He stands at 5 feet and 4 inches, with a reach of 165 centimeters. Vasquez also boxes using a Southpaw stance.

Vasquez was born third among four sons of Mrs. Nellis Ramirez de Vasquez and Mr. Carlos Vasquez in Saint Thomas Hospital located in Panama City. Vasquez followed the footsteps of his elder brothers William and Royers who are also boxers by profession. As a result, Vasquez started his career as an amateur boxer in 1992 at a young age of 9 years old, even managing to obtain a record of 94 victories with just 5 losses. In fact, in 1998, Vasquez was the winner of the Juvenile National Championship that was held in Panama, and subsequently went on to win the National Golden Gloves tournament in 2000. The latter was held a few short months before he made his debut into the professional world of boxing.
Among Vasquez’s number of awards is his win of the 2001 Fight of the Year, as well as the 2002 Prospect of the Year, and top award of being 2003, 2004, and 2005 Boxer of the Year. Despite all his achievements, 2004 became a rather painful year for Vasquez due to the death of his father.

In April 29, 2005, Vasquez made waves when he became known as the 22nd Panamanian who became a World Champion. This was when he knocked out Beibis Mendoza, the WBA’s interim champion. To date, Vasquez has a total of 27 matches won with 20 via knockout with 3 matches lost.
