Sara Bailey was born Sara Haghighat-Joo on June 17, 1994, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Canadian fighter is 163 cm tall.She competes in the light Flyweight division and fights from an orthodox position. Born to Iranian parents, she is fluent in Persian and holds a degree in Human Kinetics. She is married to her coach and manager, Stevie Bailey, and trains out of the West End Athletic Club in Etobicoke.
Before turning professional, she had a decorated amateur career, winning five Canadian national championships and making history as the first boxer representing Sierra Leone (qualifying through her grandparents) to win a gold medal at the African Elite Boxing Championships.
Career
Bailey began her professional campaign in November 2022 with a unanimous decision victory over Nayeli Verde. She progressed rapidly, and in April 2024—in only her fourth professional bout—she defeated the defending champion Guadalupe Bautista via unanimous decision to capture the WBA Light Flyweight World Title.She successfully defended her title against the veteran Anabel Ortiz in December 2024 and Cristina Navarro in March 2025, both via unanimous decision victories in Toronto.
In September 2025, Bailey faced her toughest test to date in a high-profile unification bout against IBF and WBO champion Evelyn Bermudez in Ottawa. Despite her home advantage, Bailey was stopped in the first round by the experienced Argentine, suffering the first loss of her professional career and losing her WBA title.
