Claressa Maria "GWOAT" Shields was born on March 17, 1995, in Flint, Michigan, United States. The American fighter is 173 cm tall and has a wingspan of 173 cm.She has competed in five weight divisions, ranging from Light Middleweight to heavyweight. She fights from an orthodox position and is widely considered one of the greatest female boxers of all time. As an amateur, she made history as the first American boxer (male or female) to win consecutive Olympic gold medals (2012 and 2016).
Career
Shields began her professional campaign in November 2016 with a unanimous decision victory over Franchón Crews-Dezurn. She quickly ascended to the top of the sport, becoming a two-division undisputed champion at Middleweight and Light Middleweight.In July 2024, she moved up to the heavyweight division and defeated Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse via second-round TKO to win the WBC and WBO Light Heavyweight titles and the WBC Heavyweight title. She further solidified her dominance in February 2025 by defeating Danielle Perkins to become the undisputed female heavyweight champion.
Most recently, in July 2025, Shields successfully defended her undisputed heavyweight crown against Lani Daniels in Detroit, winning a wide unanimous decision. She continues to break records, holding major world titles in three weight classes simultaneously.
