Career
Romero began his professional campaign in December 2016 with a first-round TKO of David Courtney. He won the vacant WBA Interim Lightweight Title in August 2020 with a controversial unanimous decision over Jackson Maríñez.His undefeated record ended in a rivalry with Gervonta Davis in May 2022, where he was defeated by TKO in the sixth round.
Romero moved up to super Lightweight and, in May 2023, captured the vacant WBA Super Lightweight Title with a TKO victory over Ismael Barroso. He lost this title in his first defense, a TKO loss to Isaac Cruz in March 2024.
Following that loss, he moved up to Welterweight and won the WBA Welterweight Title in August 2025.
