Alimkhanuly began his professional campaign in 2016 following a decorated amateur run. His time in the unpaid ranks included gold medal victories at the 2013 World Championships, the 2013 Asian Championships, and the 2014 Asian Games. He also represented Kazakhstan at the 2016 Olympic Games.He captured the WBO Interim Middleweight Title in May 2022 with a knockout victory over Danny Dignum. He was elevated to full WBO World Champion later that year in August.
His first unification bout took place in October 2023, where he defeated Vincenzo Gualtieri to add the IBF Middleweight title to his collection.
