Career

Gvozdyk began his professional campaign in 2014 following a decorated amateur run. His time as an amateur was highlighted by a bronze medal victory for Ukraine at the 2012 London Olympics and a gold medal win at the 2013 Summer Universiade.

His professional ascent led to a world title opportunity in a rivalry with long-reigning champion Adonis Stevenson in December 2018. Gvozdyk won the WBC and Lineal championships via a dramatic 11th-round knockout.

His reign was challenged in a 2019 unification bout against fellow undefeated champion Artur Beterbiev. Gvozdyk lost the contest via tenth-round TKO and subsequently announced his retirement from the sport.
