David Avanesyan, nicknamed “Ava”, is a professional boxer from Russia. He is a former WBA Welterweight Champion and he has also held the European welterweight title. As of February 2023, he holds the WBO Welterweight Title.

Career
Avanesyan turned pro in June 2009. His first professional fight was a win against Vazgen Agadzhanyan. Since his debut, he has been in 34 bouts, winning 29, losing 4, and having one draw.His first loss came early in his career in July 2009. It was against Andrey Klimov. From that win through February 2013, he established a 12-win streak, broken only by the draw result of his fight against Aslanbek Kozaev in March 2013.
The time when he was undefeated, he picked up the Russia Welterweight title in August 2010, which he won again in May 2011. In March 2012, he won his first world title, the WBC Asian Boxing Council Welterweight title.
After his draw, Avanesyan again established a winning streak of 9 fights, until he lost to Lamont Peterson in February 2017. In February 2018, he again lost, this time to Egidijus Kavaliauskas. That loss cost him the North American Boxing Federation Welterweight title.
From September 2019 to March 2022, he was in five fights, winning all of them. He had picked up the EBU Welterweight title and he was able to successfully defend it four times. In December 2022, he fought for the WBO Welterweight title but he lost to Terrence Crawford.
