Osvary David Morrell Gutierrez Jr. was born on January 18, 1998, in Santa Clara, Cuba. The Cuban fighter stands 185 cm tall and has an impressive wingspan of 196 cm.

He has successfully competed at both Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight during his professional run. Morrell is recognized for his aggressive, high-pressure style and formidable power, fighting from a southpaw position.

Following a decorated amateur career, he made the decision to leave Cuba to pursue his professional ambitions in the United States, now fighting out of Minneapolis.

Career

Morrell launched his professional campaign in 2019 after a stellar amateur run. His time in the unpaid ranks was highlighted by a dominant gold medal victory at the 2016 Youth World Championships and a Cuban National Championship win.

Due to his extensive amateur pedigree, his handlers moved him at an unprecedented pace. He captured the WBA Interim Super Middleweight title in just his third professional fight. He was soon elevated to the WBA (Regular) champion, a secondary title he defended successfully multiple times.

Seeking greater challenges, Morrell moved up to the light heavyweight division. He continued his success, securing the WBA (Regular) title in that weight class as well in 2024. His rapid ascent through two divisions eventually led him to a major world title challenge where he suffered his first professional defeat in 2025.
