Naoya Inoue is an active professional boxer from Japan. He is a four-division world champion and one of only three male boxers in history to become an undisputed champion in two different weight classes during the four-belt era.

Career

Inoue began his professional campaign in October 2012 after a successful amateur career. He won his first world title in just his sixth professional fight.

Inoue became the undisputed Bantamweight champion in December 2022 by knocking out Paul Butler. He then moved up in weight and became the undisputed Super Bantamweight champion in December 2023, following a rivalry with Marlon Tapales, whom he stopped in the 10th round.

His career is also defined by high-profile rivalries. In May 2024, he faced Luis Nery and was knocked down for the first time in his career in round one, before rallying to win by sixth-round KO. Most recently, he defended his undisputed title with a dominant unanimous decision over former unified champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev in September 2025.

Awards

Inoue's dominance has earned him numerous accolades. He was named the 2023 "Fighter of the Year" by consensus, winning the prestigious Sugar Ray Robinson Award (BWAA), The Ring magazine award, and ESPN award.

His 2019 unification bout against Nonito Donaire was named "Fight of the Year" by The Ring, ESPN, and the BWAA. For winning the World Boxing Super Series tournament that year, he was also awarded the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
