Richard Commey is a professional boxer who formerly held the IBF lightweight title. He also won the Ghanaian title in 2011 for the regional lightweight category.

Professional Boxing Career

In September 2016, Commey became a professional boxer and fought Robert Easter Jr. In the first four rounds, both of them started to become determined however Commey managed to drop Easter Jr during the 8th round. Regardless of knocking down Easter Jr, the judges still favored Easter Jr in the 115-112 and 114-113 decisions.

After the so-called injustice, he went against Isa Chaniev and won the IBF title. After this fight, he faced Ray Beltran, whom he knocked down four times. On the last knockdown, the referee has to stop the fight, and Commey won his first defense title.

In December 2021, Commey fought against the world-leading champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and this time, Lomachenko has won the fight because he dominated from the first to the last round. Although Lomachenko told Commey to just surrender the fight because of the visible damages, still Commey was determined to continue until the last round. In the end, Lomachenko won the title in a unanimous decision.
