Miguel Berchelt

Miguel Berchelt is a professional boxer from Mexico. From 2017 to 2021, he held the WBC Super Featherweight title. The Ring, BoxRec, and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board rank Berchett as one of the top active boxers in the world.

Player Profile and Personal Life

Berchelt was born Miguel Angel Berchett Cervera on November 17, 1991 in Cancun, Quintana Roo in Mexico. Nicknamed, The Scorpion or El Alacran, he stands 170 cm and has a long reach of 182 cm. Fighting in the super featherweight division, he has an orthodox stance.

As a teen, he tried out for a football club but was unsuccessful. He later turned to boxing.

Career

As an amateur boxer, he won the Mexican National Boxing Championship three times. However, he never got to represent Mexico internationally. That honor was given to fellow Mexican boxer Oscar Valdez, Jr..

When he turned 18, he turned pro and moved from Cancun to Merida. His debut was held on his 19th birthday. The World Boxing Council named him the Boxer of the Year in 2011. Some of his more notable fights early in his career include those against Claudio Rios and Luis Eduardo Florez. He was defeated by Florez. He would later go on to win the Interim WBO Super Featherweight title.

In January 2017, he challenged Francisco Vargas for the WBC Super Featherweight Championship Title. The fight lasted 11 rounds with Berchett winning. He successfully defended the title in July of that year against Takashi Miura.

In 2018, he defended his title again, this time against Maxwell Awuku. He was scheduled to fight mandatory challenger Miguel Roman in May 2018 but it was postponed while Berchelt went to fight Jonathan Victor Barros.

Other notable bouts in his professional career include the one against Oscar Valdez. Berchelt lost. Following his defeat, he moved up to Lightweight. His first fight in the division is scheduled for March 2022.
