Born on July 27, 1988, Jamal “Shango” James is an American professional boxer. Since February 2021, he has held the title WBA (Regular) welterweight as an interim champion. Throughout his boxing career, James has competed in a total of 28 fights. Out of 28 fights, he has 27 wins, and one (1) loses only. Of all his wins, 12 were wins by knockouts.

Considered a golden child, Jamal James started his boxing life at the age of 5. His mother brought him to the Circle of Discipline boxing gym to develop structure and discipline. He began his training with Shankara Frazier as his coach.

James was ten years old when he officially launched his amateur career in boxing. He was ranked as the No. 1 in the 141-pound class by USA Boxing. His last year as an amateur player was in 2009 where he was a runner-up in two national tournaments.

In 2010, James made his professional boxing debut by knocking out Justin Danforth in the third round. He quickly rises to the ranks as he continuously defeats his opponents. Six of his first 17 opponents were defeated by technical knockout (TKO) within the first two rounds of the game. One of the highlights of his career was defeating veteran southpaw boxer Wayne Martell in 2014.

By June 2015, Shango has an unbreakable record of 17-0. The only loss in his career was losing to Yordenis Ugas, a 2005 amateur world champion and bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympics. Currently, James ranks as the 9th Welterweight boxer in the US.
