Sergey Kovalev is a Russian boxer, who held multiple titles from different divisions. He was nicknamed as “Krusher” for his exceptional punches, which could crush his opponent. Humble as he is, he often regarded himself as a regular boxer. In November 2019, he was ranked as the Top 2 best light heavyweight by the Ring Magazine and Top 4 by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. In 2014, The Ring magazine hailed Kovalev as the Fighter of the Year.

When Kovalev was a child, he was more interested in ice hockey, however, he stopped playing ice hockey when someone stole his equipment in the locker room. Because his family couldn’t buy the replacement equipment, he was told by his family to try other sports instead. After he stopped playing ice hockey, he took interest in boxing and amateur wrestling.

He started his professional career when he fought against Daniel Chavez, and he won via knockout in the first round. This one-to-two round knockout continued for 8 consecutive fights until Darnell Boone in October 2010 ended his win streak. In July 2011, he successfully won his first NABA against Douglas Otieno. His next fight with Grover Young was rather controversial because the judges decided on a technical draw after Young failed to continue the fight.

In 2011, Kovalev was set to fight Roman Simakov, which he knocked down in the 6th round, and he was awarded a TKO victory. Unfortunately, Simakov fell into a coma and died after 3 days.

In 2012, he met Darnell Boone again, and there he demonstrated how great his improvement is by knocking him out on the second round. This win only resulted in a bigger opportunity by signing to the Main Events boxing.
