Beterbiev turned pro on September 28, 2013, in a fight against Rayco Saunders. As of December 2022, he has had 18 fights, winning all 18 of them. He won his first title in 2014, the North American Boxing Association Light Heavyweight title after beating Tavoris Cloud.

In December of that year, Beterbiev won the vacant IBF North American Light Heavy and WBO NABO Light Heavyweight titles after beating Jeff Page Jr.. In 2016, he defended his North American Boxing Association Light Heavyweight title against Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna.

In 2107, he won the vacant IBF World Light Heavyweight title. He defended this title five times through to June 2022. In January 2023, he is set to go up against Yarde to defend his three titles.
