Career
Makabu debuted in June 2008. It was a loss against Khayeni Hlungwane. Since then, he has fought 31 times, winning 29 of those fights.
After his first loss, he turned it around and won against Elvis Moyo in September 2008. He won his first title in 2011, the World Boxing Federation World Cruiserweight title when he beat Pedro Otas. In 2013, he picked up the vacant WBC Silver Cruiserweight title when beat Dmytro Kucher. He successfully defended this against Eric Fields.
In June 2014, he won the vacant WBC International Cruiser after defeating Glen Johnson. In May 2016, he lost to Tony Bellew.
In August 2018, he won the WBC International Cruiserweight title when he beat Taylor Mabika. In June 2019, he picked up the vacant WBC Silver Cruiserweight title after he defeated Dmitry Kudryashov. A few months later in August, he defended this against Aleksei Papin.
On January 31, 2020, he beat Michal Cieslak and won the WBC World Cruiserweight title. He successfully defended this for the first time in December 2020 and again in January 2022.
