Michael Hunter, Jr. is a professional boxer who fights under the heavyweight division. As of the later part of 2020, he is ranked eighth-best active boxer in his division by the Ring Magazine, sixth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and seventh by BoxRec. He is the son of Mike Hunter, also a professional boxer.
As an amateur boxer, Hunter earned several achievements. These include earning a spot in the finals of the National Golden Gloves in 2006 at the age of 18. In the same year, he also won a bronze medal in Morocco during the Under-19 World Championships. Furthermore, he became a national champion in 2009, grabbed the Golden Gloves title in 2011, and qualified for the London Olympics.

Hunter made his professional debut in March 2013 and defeated Chad Davis in the third round via technical knockout. This debut fight was held at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. After this victorious debut, he impressive managed an 11-fight winning streak that was spread out from mid-2013 to 2016. His 12th win earned him the vacant WBO-NABO cruiserweight title.
It was in April of 2017 when hunter experienced his first and only loss in his boxing career. This was his 13th fight which was held in the MGM National Harbor in Maryland. During the fight, he was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine after 12 rounds of fighting. His defeat was declared over the unanimous decision.
In 2018, Hunter won all his 4 fights. These include his fight with Terrell Jamal Woods, Iago Kiladze, Martin Bakole, and Alexander Ustinov. These wins earned him the IBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title and WBA International heavyweight title.
From 2019 to 2021, Hunter appeared in 5 fights. Four of these fights were all victories while one was declared as a draw. His first fight in 2019 allowed him to retain his WBA International heavyweight title while his second fight earned him the WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title. Furthermore, he won the WBA Continental Americas title during his latest fight on August 3, 2021.
