Jamie McDonnell was born on March 30, 1986 in Hatfield, Doncaster, located in South Yorkshire. This British boxer is a former professional who competed between 2005 to 2019. Donnel is considered a two-time bantamweight champion. His first IBF title was won in 2013 and WBA from 2014 to 2018. McDonnell also held multiple regional bantamweight titles - British, Commonwealth and European. Jamie has a twin brother named Gavin McDonnell who is also a professional boxer.

Jamie McDonnell won his first professional match in September 2005. It was against Neal Reid held at Doncaster Dome. He won the next three fights after. His first draw match was against Welshman Dai Davies. He got his revenge on October 13, 2006, where he defeated Wayne Bloy after four rounds. In the same year, he also defeated Andy Bell on the sixth round of the match. Bell became the future British Super Flyweight Champion.
The next fight for McDonnell, made him win his first English Bantamweight title against Bloy. His record was 8-0-1 at that time. When he got the record, the boxer never played outside his hometown, Doncaster.

In 2007, McDonnell fought in London and defeated Nikita Lukin after eight rounds. It was his first match outside Doncaster. His first loss happened on December 8, 2007 in Robin Park Center against Chris Edwards via split decision. The next year, he again suffered another defeat against Lee Haskins. The fight was a close loss after eight rounds.
Jamie regrouped after two straight defeats. He defeated several boxers along the way before fighting for the British title. He fought against the experienced Ian Napa. The battle was tough but Jamie managed to win via split decision. The win paved the way for a European title against Jerome Arnould in 2010. He bagged his third title against Arnould. His next bouts to defend the title proved successful.

His latest match happened in 2018 against Naoya Inoue in Tokyo, Japan. The visiting fighter lost after the first two minutes of the match. After the loss, he never returned to the ring professionally. McDonell announced his retirement last May 11, 2021.
