Andy Ruiz was born September 11, 1981, in a small town called Imperial in the State of California. At an early age, he was trained by his father. As a professional boxer, his first bout was in Tijuana, Mexico on March 28, 2009. He won via a first-round knockout over Miguel Salvador Ramirez. He won again to two consecutive matches in Mexico. On March 12, 2010, Ruiz made his first US pro-debut in Texas against Luke Vaughn. The Destroyer continues to win matches, reaching a record of 19-0 in 2013. His first international fight happened in Macao where he dominated over Joe Hanks and Tor Harmer. In 2017, Ruiz returned to the US fighting Quezada in Fresno, California. Other showdown includes a fight against former heavyweight Siarhei Liakhovich. Ruiz won 5 consecutive bouts that paved the way for world title games.

On December 10, 2016, he challenged Joseph Parker to the WBO World Heavyweight Championship, in Auckland. The battle lasted 12 rounds. Unfortunately, Ruiz lost over Parker with 115-113 score. He won a come-back match on March 10, 2018, in a first-round KO against Devin Vargas. He made it to Premier Boxing Championships in 2019. On June 1, 2019, Ruiz stunned the world with a 7th round TKO victory against Anthony Joshua. However, his victory didn’t last long because a rematch allowed Joshua to claim the title back.
