Billy Joe Saunders is a professional boxer born on August 30, 1989. The 30-year-old boxer was born in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, England. He is famous for holding championship titles in two weight classes including the WBO supper-middleweight title and the WBO middleweight title. He held his WBO middleweight title from 2015 to 2018 and his WBO super-middleweight title from 2019 until May 8 of 2021.

Saunders represented the entire Great Britain as an amateur boxer in the welterweight division during the Olympics held in 2008. In the same year, he also won a gold medal during the European Union Junior Championships. Furthermore, Saunders also earned the Strandzha Cup in 2008 that was held in Bulgaria as well as the Commonwealth championship in 2007 held in Liverpool.

It was in February of 2009 when Saunders made his professional debut as a boxer. He started in the middleweight division and played and won his first fight against Attila Molnar at the National Indoor Arena. He won his first three professional fights via technical knockout in the second round. His fourth to sixth fights were also all victories by PTS. In his entire professional boxing career, he only lost 1 fight by knockout in the eighth round. This happened on May 8, 2021, against Canelo Alvarez. This fight made him lose his super-middleweight title.

As a professional, Saunders was known to be the first boxer to become a world champion in two weight divisions that came from the Travelling community. From 2012-2015, he held the Commonwealth, British and European middleweight titles.

Saunders stands 5 feet and 11 inches and comes with a 71-inch or 180-centimeter reach. He skillfully plays the Southpaw stance. At present, he is ranked sixth in the world by The Ring magazine and BoxRec in the super-middleweight division.
