His first fight in the year 2006 was one of sweet victory where he was able to win against Mexico’s Gilberto Bolanos. His succeeding fights in the same year all ended up victorious for the young boxer. In more recent years including 2007 and the current year 2008, Juanma continued on knocking down opponents in almost every fight.

Now, included in his list of technically knocked-out boxers are Jorge Otero, Giovanni Andrade, Hugo Dianzo, Omar Adorno and Jonathan Oquendo. On June 7, 2008, with a match against then title holder Daniel Ponce de Leon, Juanma won again by technical knockout and was proclaimed the new WBO Super Bantamweight Champion. He has a record of 30 fights, no losses, and 27 knockdowns.

After gaining popularity at the bantamweight division, Lopez transferred to the featherweight division. His first fight was against Steven Luevano, which he won via technical knockout.
