Ulises Solis
Jose Ulises Solis was born on August 28, 1981, in Apozol, Zacatecas, Mexico, and now residing in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He is an active Mexican professional boxer who rose to fame as soon as he won the IBF world championship title in the light-flyweight division. Solis has a milder sounding alias by the name of "Archie". He uses an Orthodox stance, standing 5'3" with a reach of 166. He is a promising fighter, based on his in-ring performance and remarkable professional record.
On January 7, 2006, Ulises Solis proved to the world that he was championship material by defeating Will Grigsby in order to become the new IBF Light-Flyweight Champion. He beat Grigsby by a unanimous decision. Another worthy feat was when he defeated former WBC world champion Jose Antonio Aguirre via an 8th round technical knockout. In December 15, 2007, Solis was able to defend his title against veteran Filipino boxer Bert Balawag. He was able to successfully defend his title for six times and is still the current holder as of 2008, proving himself as one true champion.
On a more recent note, Ulises Solís was scheduled to face Glenn Donaire on May 17, 2008, however, he was forced to withdraw after coming down with a serious case of pneumonia. The fight between the two is reportedly being rescheduled for July.
While being the holder of the IBF Super-Flyweight Championship and possessing a commendable record of 25 wins, with 19 wins by way of knockout, one loss, and two draws, not to mention six successful title defenses, Ulises Solis is one of the noteworthy boxers of today brimming with talent.
