Born on May 15, 1981, Matthew Hatton is a professional boxer. Known as ‘Magic’ in the ring, this welterweight is a former Commonwealth and world title challenger and the current European Champion. He is the younger brother of Ricky Hatton, another world champion boxer.

Hatton began boxing at the age of 12 and has fought at 22 amateur contests, winning 18 of them. He turned professional in 2002, winning his first title over David White and proceeded to win more in his first 13 fights before losing to David Kirk in 2003. Undeterred, he went on to win the British Central Area welterweight by defeating Robert Burton. He again defeated Robert Burton six months later to win the light middleweight version of the title.

Hatton’s most recent match was in March 2011, when he lost to Saul Alvarez while fighting for the WBC light middleweight title. A year prior to that, he fought Gianluca Branco for the vacant European welterweight title, winning the title by unanimous decision. Titles held include the IBF intercontinental welterweight title, the IBF international Welterweight Title, the British Central Area welterweight title and the British central area Light Middleweight title, aside from the European welterweight title.

So far, Hatton boasts of a record of 49 total fights fought with 42 victories, 16 via KO and 5 losses with 2 draws.
