Previously kicked out from the Olympic team for missing several weeks of workout and practice, Luis Yanez finally got reinstated to the roster for the Beijing Olympics by USA Boxing. >
The team dropped Yanez because he was absent from the Olympic team’s training program in Colorado Springs for a good part of June. USA Boxing CEO Jim Millman and Coach Dan Campbell reportedly had not heard from Yanez until sometime before they sent a letter of a set final deadline for his return. Yanez was said to be at home in Duncanville, Texas all the while.
Yanez family spokesman Michael Montoya said that Yanez is already close to his fighting weight after several weeks of coaching under his long-time coach, Dennis Rodarte. In connection with his lengthy absence, Yanez has agreed to pay the fine and undergo sports counseling. To add to the agreement, Yanez has agreed to make a public apology for his actions. He will also issue a personal apology to his teammates, and to avoid making public remarks regarding the situation.
Yanez made his deal for his reinstatement just a mere two days after the judicial committee of USA Boxing made the decision to ban him.
As soon as Yanez was back in training with his coaches, he was rather reluctant to provide the reasons for missing his workouts. Eventually, he opened up and said that he was caring for his sister and her children while she underwent rehabilitation. However, the team still prevented Yanez from entering the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
