With the world bracing for year’s biggest boxing match on Saturday, one guy is left uneasy about the outcome of the fight, no matter which boxer wins. Top promoter Bob Arum has expressed his intention not to watch the fight this coming Saturday on a phone call with his stepson Todd duBoef who is also the president of Top Rank Promotions.>
“On Sunday, I called Bob and told him we were getting great (coverage) of the fight and things were looking terrific and he just goes, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then he says to me, ‘I don’t want to see the fight.’
du Boef added, “ I was astounded and I said, ‘What? You don’t want to see the fight?’ And he said, ‘Todd, I’m sick to my stomach. I like these kids too much to watch them do this to each other. I like to root for my guy against someone else. This is going to be very hard on me.’ I was really amazed.”
The Pacquiao-Cotto match is predicted to surpass the 1.4 million sales generated by the last non-heavyweight bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad back in 1999. Bob Arum had earlier reported that there are no more tickets for the anticipated Sunday bout. Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto are both under the promotional banner of Top Rank.
