With the Pacquiao-Hatton fight now a match for the history books, everyone is looking forward for the year’s next best event, this time between cocky Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez. floyd mayweather jr

The American boxer is set to face off with Marquez who also has also been a world champion in three different weight classes and had just toppled Juan Diaz after 9 rounds earlier in the year. This could be the next step for either boxer on the way to fight current pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao. Marquez had already fought Pacquiao twice before, with the first one ruled a draw and the second going to Pacman by split decision.

Mayweather,Jr., a five weight world champion retired in 2007 but at 32 and a few years out of the ring, it seems he is getting the itch to fight again.

“I started to miss the competition and my fans. I am ready to return to boxing and give people another dose of the Mayweather experience,” Mayweather said. “I retired from the sport, but it was as if I had never made an announcement. Fighters were constantly calling me out and fans would stop me all the time and ask me to make a return, he added.

The two boxers have confirmed that a fight is scheduled for July 18th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
