Manchester, London – the lightweight battle between two skilled boxers, former world champion Marco Antonio Barrera and Britain’s Amir Khan, becomes a much awaited event on March 14 this year.marco antonio barrera

“Baby Faced Assassin” Barrera who recently returned form a momentary retirement in November after knocking out Sammy Ventura during his first lightweight fight, will clash with Khan at the Manchester Evening News Arena in northwest England.

It was confirmed by boxing promoter Frank Warren that the bout will be held at the same venue where the 22-year-old Khan was surmounted for the initial time in the span of his 20-fight career. He began fighting competitively when he was only 11 years old.

Khan has a current record of 19-1 after he won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics as a comeback after his first-round defeat in September. He was able to win the WBA International lightweight title last month by smashing Oisin Fagan in the second round.

Khan is perfectly happy with the venue saying, “I’m so happy that the fight is at the M.E.N Arena,” he informed the press. “It’s also the perfect opportunity to rid the ghosts of my loss to Breidis Prescott last year and a victory would send my career onto another level.”

The fight will be one of the biggest one for the young boxer Khan – while it will probably just the opposite for the 34-year-old Barrera who already has several world titles in three different weights under his belt. The Mexican fighter has won 64 out of his 71 fights so far.
