Being a successful sportsman at his term, Philippine Senator Manny Pacquiao had a bolder move to running an ambitious position of being president in the coming Philippine Election in 2022.
Although 6 years back he was a member of the PDP-Laban party list, now it seemed he’s bickering with the party-list president Rodrigo Duterte about anomalies and corruption.
Duterte, on the other hand, will be running for vice-president after his 6-year term as president. Pacquiao will be running against fellow Senators Bong Go, Panfilo Lacson, and Tito Sotto.
Bong Go was hardly convinced to run with the boxer as his Vice President. Although Pacquiao still wanted Go to reconsider his decision, his loyalty remains the same for the President. Many people are also eyeing for Sara Duterte to run alongside Pacquiao as a close ally, despite Pacquiao’s relationship with her father.
His wife, Jinkee Pacquiao, also supported his decision to run for the presidency, as she posted on her social media platforms about her husband’s declaration. She mentioned in her post that she and their children are standing beside the Senator and supporting him with prayers and confidence.
Pacquiao, who recently lost against Yordenis Ugas inside the ring, had considered putting boxing behind. As a fighter himself, Pacquiao willingly accepted the nomination and stepped up to his game. He had pledged against corruption and poverty. Since he is a popular household figure in the Philippines, his biggest battle may be winning the hearts of many Filipino, whose hopes were to end injustices, political dynasties, and corruption in the country.
