It has just been announced that Luke Campbell is now scheduled to go against Vasyl Lomachenko on August 31 in UK. Both will be vying for the currently vacant WBC lightweight title.

It was revealed on WBC on Tuesday that a purse bid was cancelled after the meetings and agreement of Bob Arum and Eddie Hearn.Regarding the fight, the 31-year-old is considered the mandatory challenger, and has been patiently waiting for an opponent to go head to head for a title fight. This comes after its previous belt holder, Mikey Garcia, chose not to make a defense for his title. Instead, he is being listed as an “emeritus” champion by those who are governing the matches.

Lomachenko, on the other hand, is the current titleholder of WBA ‘Super’, as well as the WBO lightweight champion. He just recently managed to defend his titles against challenger, Anthony Crolla. This was during the match held in April, which ended in a fourth-round knockout.

It has been a while since Campbell fought, and this was in March, which he defeated Adrian Yung via TKO in the fifth round. This will be the second shot the Brit will have at gaining a world title, after he lost to Jorge Linares in 2017.
