The history of the Coral company began in 1926 when Joe Coral ran betting pitches at a greyhound course. His great friend, Tom Bradbury-Pratt hosted speedway meetings and they went on to establish many tracks together such as Harringay Stadium where we now find ourselves today!

When Coral was acquired by Bass, it had grown to be one of the largest leisure groups in Great Britain. The company comprised 650 betting shops and two greyhound stadia along with other operations such as casinos, hotels, etc., which were integrated into this acquisition.
In December 1997, Ladbrokes acquired Coral from Bass. However, the acquisition was referred to the UK Monopolies and Mergers Commission which concluded that it would create an unfair advantage for their retail division if they were allowed keep ownership of this popular betting company as well (they did retain control over what branches went out).
In September 1998 after much negotiation between both parties, the Coral Eurobet Group was taken over by a management buy-out in September 2002 which Charterhouse Development Capital funded.
In October 2005, Gala Coral Group acquired the UK’s third-largest bookmaker and bingo operator for £2.18 billion ($300,000,000), creating an international player in both gambling markets while also maintaining traction with its original business of casino entertainment through this acquisition
In 2007 after changing its name from “Gala” to just “Coral” The company made another big splash when it purchased Mecca Casinos Europe which included five different brands such as Harrahs Entertainment Services Ltd.
