A Rebound in basketball is a statistic given to a player who retrieved the ball following a missed field goal attempt. It is also awarded for missed free throws.

The rebound only happens when a shot is missed because if it is successfully made, possession of the ball will go to the other team. The rebound can be offensive or defensive. Offensive is when the ball is recovered by a player from the same team as the one who attempted the shot.

Most rebounds are defensive rebounds. This is usually because members of the defense are usually in a better position to retrieve the ball on the rebound.

In the NBA, Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia 76ers was known to have the most number of rebounds, with a total of 23,924.
