The Chicago Stags were a professional basketball team playing in the Basketball Association of America from 1946 to 1948 and later in the National Basketball Association during the 1949- 1950 season.

The team was formed in 1946 and was named as the Chicago Stags. The team colors were red, white and blue and the team logo was a deer’s head in red over a blue outlined basketball with Chicago written in blue and Stags written in italics red over the basketball. The team arena was the Chicago Stadium.

In 1946, when the Basketball Association of America was found, the Chicago Packers were one of the eleven teams playing in the inaugural year. The Stags were part of the western division and finished the regular season with a record of 49 wins and 11 losses. The defeated the Washington Capitals in the semi-finals to reach the finals against the Philadelphia Warriors. The Warriors defeated the Stags that year to claim the championship. In 1947, the Stags finished second with a record of 28 wins and 20 losses. There were only eight teams playing in the BAA that year. In 1948, the Stags finished third with 38 wins and 22 losses however, lost to the Minneapolis Lakers in the playoffs. In 1949, the Stags were part of the National Basketball Association after the merger of the National Basketball League and the Basketball Association of America. They finished with 40 wins and 28 losses still falling short of the Royals and Lakers who had 51 wins and 17 losses in the central division of the NBA. The Stags did not qualify for the playoffs that season and folded in 1950.

In a total of 237 games the Stags played in the BAA and the NBA, they won 145 matches and lost 92 matches.
