Marcus Thornton

Marcus Thornton is an American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association for eight seasons. He has jumped from teams like the Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns and the Washington Wizards. He currently plays for the Eberlein Drive in The Basketball Tournament.

Marcus Terrell Thornton was born on June 5, 1987, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States of America. He stands 193 cm tall and his playing weight was listed at 93 kg. Thornton played as a right-handed shooting guard.

Thornton's fiancée, Lyndsey Duplessis, gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Maleia, on January 1, 2016. He is a cousin of former NBA player Al Thornton.

High School and College Career

Thornton attended Tara High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He then played two years at Kilgore College, a junior college in Texas, before transferring to Louisiana State University.

In 2009, he was named the SEC Player of the Year. That season, he was also named to the First-team All-SEC.

Professional Career

Thornton was selected by the Miami Heat with the 43rd overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the New Orleans Hornets. He had a strong rookie season, earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors.

NBA teams he's played for include the New Orleans Hornets from 2009 to 2011, Sacramento Kings from 2011 to 2014, Brooklyn Nets in 2014, Boston Celtics from 2014 to 2015, Phoenix Suns in 2015, Houston Rockets from 2015 to 2016, and the Washington Wizards from 2016 to 2017.

After his NBA career, Thornton played in the NBA G League for the Grand Rapids Drive and the Motor City Cruise. He also briefly played in China.
