Barber was selected by the Minneapolis Lakers in the seventh round of the 1956 NBA Draft. He made his NBA debut on February 3, 1957, with the St. Louis Hawks, appearing in five games before concluding his professional career.
His basketball legacy continues through his family, as he is the grandfather of former NBA players Jason Sasser and Jeryl Sasser, and the great-grandfather of current NBA player Marcus Sasser.
