He then played college basketball at Duke University from 1977 to 1981, where he earned numerous accolades including ACC Rookie of the Year (1978), First-team All-ACC (1981), Second-team All-ACC three times (1978-1980), and Third-team All-American honors from NABC (1981) and UPI (1979).

Professional Career

Banks was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 1981 NBA Draft. He played for the Spurs from 1981 to 1985 before joining the Chicago Bulls for 2 seasons in 1985 to 1987.

After his NBA career, he played internationally in Italy with Arimo Bologna (1988-1989), followed by a stint with the La Crosse Catbirds. He concluded his playing career in Israel, playing for Maccabi Rishon Lezion (1990-1992) and Hapoel Herzliya (1992-1993).
