He then played college basketball at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) from 1987 to 1991, where he won the 1990 NCAA Championship.He became the first three-time winner of the NABC Defensive Player of the Year (1989-1991) and was inducted into the UNLV Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
Professional Career
Augmon began his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks, playing there from 1991 to 1996. He made an immediate impact, earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in his debut season. After his time with the Hawks, he spent one season with the Detroit Pistons (1996-1997) before joining the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played from 1997 to 2001.He then moved to the Charlotte Hornets for the 2001-2002 season and stayed with the franchise through their relocation to New Orleans Hornets (2002-2004). He concluded his playing career with the Orlando Magic from 2004 to 2006.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Augmon transitioned into coaching, beginning as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets from 2007 to 2011. He then returned to his alma mater UNLV as an assistant coach from 2011 to 2016. Following his time at UNLV, he joined the Milwaukee Bucks' coaching staff as an assistant from 2016 to 2018.His coaching journey then took him to South Korea, where he served first as an assistant and then as head coach for Jeonju KCC Egis during the 2018-2019 season. Currently, he serves as the player development coach for the Sacramento Kings, a position he has held since 2019.
