Sidney Moncrief is a retired professional basketball player and coach. He played in the National Basketball Association and also served as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks.
He is well-known for his intensity on both sides of the court. This five-time NBA All-Star player is both an offensive and defensive threat. He made key passes, shot from the outside, blocked shots, and slam dunk over the tallest players of his time.

He attended Hall High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Later, he committed to play college basketball for the University of Arkansas and was there from 1975 to 1979.In 1979, he was named to the Consensus First-team All-American. He was also named that year’s SWC Player of the Year. The Arkansas Razorbacks would later retire his jersey number in his honor.
Professional Career
His career in the NBA started with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1979 when he was drafted fifth overall in the 1979 NBA Draft.After spending 10 seasons with the Bucks, he played one season with the Atlanta Hawks before he retired. In his time in the NBA, he was named an NBA All-Star a total of five times.
During the 1980s, he was known as the leader of the Milwaukee Bucks, with the third-best winning percentage for the decade. Known for his versatility on the court, especially his 6’4 height, Moncrief was mostly known for his resolute defensive play.
Sidney Moncrief made 11,931 points, 3,575 rebounds, and 2,793 assists in his entire NBA career.
From 1999 to 2000, he served as the coach for the Little Rock Trojans men’s basketball team. Then from 2006 to 2007, he coached the Fort Worth Flyers. In 2011, he started serving as an assistant coach for the Bucks. He retired from coaching in 2013.
