Alex English is a retired professional basketball player and assistant coach in the National Basketball Association. As a player, he was named an NBA All-Star eight times.
He was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997. He was named to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

In addition to being a basketball player, English has also appeared in a number of movies.
High School and College Career
He attended Dreher High School in Columbia, South Carolina. Later, he committed to play college basketball for the University of South Carolina and was there from 1972 to 1976.
The South Carolina Gamecocks retired jersey number 22 in his honor.
Professional Career
English turned pro in 1976. He was selected in the second round of the 1976 NBA Draft and was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks. He played for the Bucks from 1976 to 1978.
In 1978, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers. Then in 1980, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets. It was with the Nuggets that he shone and from 1982 to 1989, he was named an NBA All-Star eight times.
In that time, he was also named to the All-NBA Second Team thrice. In 1983, he even became the NBA Scoring Champion.
After he left the Nuggets in 1990, he played with the Dallas Mavericks for a season before moving to Italy to play for Basket Napoli. He retired in 1992.
To honor him, the Nuggets retired jersey number 2 in his honor.
English returned to basketball as an assistant coach. Starting his coaching career with the Atlanta Hawks, then he was hired as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. His longest stint as an assistant coach was with the Toronto Raptors where he served from 2004 to 2011.
From 2012 to 2013, he was an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings.
