Ashraf Amaya
Ashraf ‘Andrew’ Amaya, born in Oak Park, Illinois studied at the Oak Park and River Forest High School from where he transferred to Walther Lutheran High School to finish his high school career.
Amaya’s number 50 jersey at Walther is retired by the school honoring his contributions in leading the Broncos to a 3rd place finish in the 1988 Illinois High School Associaition playoffs.
He played college level basketball for the Southern Illinois University and later went on to play for the Vancouver Grizzlies in their inaugural season of 1995-96 where he played a total of 54 games scoring 339 points and 303 rebounds at 6.3 ppg.
He also played with the Washington Bullets in 1996-97 and scored 40 points in 31 games for the Bullets. His career average is 4.5 ppg with 379 points.
He has also played for the US national team in the 1998 FIBA World Championship and won a bronze medal.
He also played for the Dakota Wizards of the NBDL, Alpella Istanbul in Turkey, Idaho Stampede in the CBA and Maroussi Athens in Greece where he won the Saporta Cup in 2001. His last professional game came for the Apollon Patras BC club in Greece in 2004.
