Alvan Adams is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He played his entire 13-year career with the Phoenix Suns.

Alvan Leigh Adams was born on July 19, 1954, in Lawrence, Kansas in the United States of America. He stands 206 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 95 kg. He is right-handed and he played power forward and center.

He was named after a Biblical figure of the same name. His mother is Australian while his father is American. His parents met while attending the University of Kansas. He is married to Sara Dennstet with two children.

High School and College Career

He attended Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City. While there, he was named to the Second-team Parade All-American. Later, he committed to play college basketball for the University of Oklahoma.

In 1975, he was named the Big Eight Player of the Year. The Oklahoma Sooners also retired his jersey number to honor him.

Professional Career

He was drafted into the NBA during the 1975 NBA Draft, selected by the Phoenix Suns. He spent the entirety of his professional playing career with the Suns.

In 1976, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and he was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In the same year, he was named an NBA All-Star.

Adams scored a total of 13,910 points with the Suns and is the career leader in games played (988), minutes played (27,203), rebounds (6,937), and steals (1,289).
