Matjaz Smodis is the winner of the following – Russian League championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008.Russian Cups in 2006 and 2007, Euroleague championships in 2001, 2006 and 2008, Italian League Championships in 2001 and 2005, Italian Cups in 2001 and 2002 and Slovenian League championship in 2000. In the year 2006, he won the Triple Crown in Basketball championship. He was the Euroleague runner-up in 2007. In 1999 and 2000, he was selected as Slovenian League All Star. He was chosen as the Italian League All Star in 2004.
Smodis was a member of KK Krka from 1994 to 2000, Virtus Bologna from 2000 to 2003, Climamio Bologna from 2003 to 2005 and CSKA Moscow from 2005 to 2009. Out of these, KK Krka belonged to the Slovenian League, Climamio Bologna and Virtus Bologna were Italian League Clubs and CSKA Moscow is a Russian League Club.
Smodis has been a part of the Slovenian national basketball team. Along with this team, he participated in the 2007 European Championship, the 2001 European Championship and the 1999 European Championship.
