An American basketball player, Michael Sharod Wilks, graduated from Rufus King High School, in Milwaukee. Wilks went on to play college basketball for four years, with Rice University, where he majored in Economics. In his senior year, Wilks averaged 4.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 20.1 points, which resulted in his Western Athletic conference Player of the Year as well as Scholar Athlete awards.
Wilks turned pro when he started out as an undrafted free agent. Wilks initially joined the Atlanta Hawks in 2002, but left after the 2002-03 season to join the Minnesota Timberwolves. But he made a switch in the same season, to the Houston Rockets, where he remained for the 2003-04 season. Wilks next moved on to the San Antonio Spurs for the 2004-05 season, and he went on to win a title in 2005. He was averaging 1.8 points per game at that point.

Wilks spent the 2005-06 season with Cleveland Cavaliers, and then moved to Denver Nuggets for 2007. He was waived in October, 2007 by the Nuggets, who resigned him just four days later, when chucky Atkins suffered an injury. But Wilks was waived again the next month, at which point he was picked up by the Washington Wizards.
In 2008, Wilks was offered a 10-day contract by the Seattle SuperSonics, but at the end of the 10-day period he was not resigned. He currently plays for Orlando Magic, who signed him in October, 2008.
