High School and College Career
He attended Delbarton School High School in Morristown, New Jersey. Later, he played college basketball for Notre Dame University and was there from 1998 to 2001. In that time, he was named the Big East Player of the Year in 2000 and 2001. He was also named to the Consensus first-team All-American twice.Professional Career
Murphy was drafted into the NBA in 2001. He was a 1st round pick, chosen 14th overall by the Golden State Warriors. He spent a good chunk of his career with the Warriors and was with them from 2001 to 2007.From 2007 to 2010, he played for the Indiana Pacers. Then from 2010 to 2011, he signed with the New Jersey Nets. Also in 2011, he signed with the Boston Celtics but ended up playing for the Los Angeles Lakers instead.
Before he retired in 2012, he signed with the Dallas Mavericks for a short time.
