Bryant attended Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana, where he earned Second-team Parade All-American honors in 1978. He then played college basketball at the University of San Francisco from 1978 to 1982.

Selected 30th overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 1982 NBA Draft, Bryant began his professional career in Italy with Ford Cantù.
He played in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Clippers before embarking on an extensive international career in Spain, Italy, and Argentina.
After his playing career, Bryant moved into coaching, working with the Jackson Wildcats, California Sea Kings, and Bethel Christian School.
