Freddie Boyd

Freddie Boyd was an American professional basketball player who spent six seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Jazz.

High School and College Career

Boyd attended East Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, California. He then played college basketball at Oregon State University from 1969 to 1972.

At Oregon State, Boyd developed into one of the best players in the Pac-8 Conference, earning Second-team All-Pac-8 honors in 1971 and First-team All-Pac-8 recognition in 1972.

Professional Career

Boyd was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 5th overall pick in the first round of the 1972 NBA Draft. He had an impressive rookie season, earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 1973.

Boyd played four seasons with the 76ers from 1972 to 1976 before joining the New Orleans Jazz for his final two professional seasons from 1976 to 1978.

After his playing career, Boyd returned to his alma mater, serving as an assistant coach for Oregon State University from 1987 to 1992.
