Donnie Boyce is an American former professional basketball player who currently serves as the head basketball coach at his high school alma mater, Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois. He played 2 seasons in the National Basketball Association for the Atlanta Hawks and played in various leagues.

High School and College Career

Boyce attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, where he was part of the "Three Amigos" along with Michael Finley and Sherrell Ford. Together, they led the Pirates to the 1991 state championship with a 32-1 record.

He then played college basketball at the University of Colorado from 1991 to 1995.

Boyce was a two-time First-team All-Big Eight selection (1994, 1995) and finished his career as Colorado's all-time leading scorer with 1,995 points, which still ranks third in school history.

He was on track to reach 2,000 points but suffered a broken leg in the first round of the 1995 Big Eight tournament.

Professional Career

Selected 42nd overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1995 NBA Draft, Boyce's professional debut was delayed until March 1996 due to his leg injury. He appeared in 30 total games for the Hawks over two seasons, starting two games and scoring 79 total points.

After his brief NBA career, Boyce played professionally in various leagues, including the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) with the Yakima Sun Kings, in France with CSP Limoges, and with the Albany Patroons before retiring as a player in 2006.

Coaching Career

Boyce began his coaching career at his alma mater, Proviso East High School, in 2011. His first team went 32-1, losing in the state final, while his second team took third place.

Under his guidance, the Pirates also reached the state finals in 2011-2012 and the state semi-finals in 2012-2013, losing both times to Chicago's Simeon High School.

In February 2015, Boyce was dismissed from his position at Proviso East following an incident where he was seen in a cell phone video in an altercation with a student while working as a campus security guard.

No criminal charges were filed after investigations by the Department of Children and Family Services and the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

He spent the 2015-2016 season as an assistant coach for the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League before being reinstated as Proviso East's head coach in March 2016. As of today, he continues to lead the program, having compiled a record of 204-78 in nine seasons with two of his former players reaching the NBA.
