Nate Bowman

Nate Bowman was an American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association. In 1970, he became an NBA Champion with the New York Knicks.

Nathaniel Bowman was born on March 19, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. He stood 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 230 pounds during his playing career.

Bowman played as a center, shot right-handed, and wore jersey numbers 12, 17, and 13.

Nicknamed "Nate the Snake", he is known for his physical style and reputation for picking up fouls.

He was involved in a notable on-court brawl between the Knicks and Hawks in 1968, which spilled into the stands. Off the court, Bowman was known for his lively personality and social life. He died of cardiac arrest in New York City on December 11, 1984, shortly after auditioning for a television commercial.

High School and College Career

Bowman attended Kirkpatrick High School in Fort Worth, Texas.

He played college basketball at Wichita State University from 1962 to 1965, where he developed into a standout center and earned First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in 1964.

Professional Career

Bowman was selected by the Cincinnati Royals with the 7th overall pick in the first round of the 1965 NBA Draft. He began his professional career with the Johnston C.J.'s and later played for the Chicago Bulls and Asbury Park Boardwalkers before joining the New York Knicks in 1967.

Bowman spent three seasons with the Knicks, earning an NBA Championship ring as a reserve on the legendary 1969–70 team. He later played for the Buffalo Braves in the NBA and the Pittsburgh Condors in the ABA, finishing his career with the Wilkes-Barre Barons in 1973.
