Ron Boone is an American former professional basketball player who played 13 seasons in the American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association, setting a remarkable record for consecutive games played and later becoming a longtime broadcaster for the Utah Jazz.

Ronald Bruce Boone was born on September 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. He stood 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 200 pounds during his playing career.

Boone grew up in the Logan Fontenelle housing projects in Omaha, Nebraska. Despite standing only 5'7" in high school, he developed into a physical player known for his toughness and conditioning. He has a son, JaRon Boone, who played college basketball at the University of Nebraska.

Since retirement, Boone has become an avid golfer and hosts the annual "Ron Boone Golf Classic" benefiting the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

High School and College Career

Boone attended Omaha Technical High School in Nebraska, where he was a teammate of future baseball Hall of Famer Bob Gibson. After high school, he played one year at Clarinda Community College in Iowa, where he continued to grow physically.

He then transferred to Idaho State University, where he played from 1965 to 1968. At Idaho State, Boone was named to the First-team All-Big Sky Conference twice (1967, 1968).

Professional Career

Despite being selected in the 11th round of the 1968 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns, Boone opted to join the Dallas Chaparrals of the ABA.

This began a remarkable professional career that would span 13 seasons without missing a single game.

Boone's career took off after being traded to the Utah Stars, where he helped lead the team to the 1971 ABA championship. He became a four-time ABA All-Star (1971, 1974-1976) and was named to the All-ABA First Team in 1974 and Second Team in 1975.

After the ABA-NBA merger in 1976, Boone played for the Kansas City Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and finished his career with the Utah Jazz.

After retiring as a player in 1981, Boone began a broadcasting career with the Jazz that has continued for more than 35 years. He is currently the color commentator for Jazz broadcasts and has indicated he may retire from broadcasting after a couple more years.
