High School and College Career
Bonner attended Vashon High School in St. Louis before playing college basketball at Saint Louis University from 1986 to 1990. At Saint Louis, he was a dominant force on the boards, leading the NCAA in rebounding in 1990.He was a two-time First-Team All-MCC selection (1989, 1990) and finished his college career as the Billikens’ all-time leading scorer with 1,972 points. In recognition of his impact, Saint Louis retired his No. 34 jersey.
Professional Career
Bonner was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 1990 NBA Draft. He played three seasons with the Kings.Bonner then joined the New York Knicks, where he contributed as a key reserve on playoff teams from 1993 to 1995. He also had a brief stint with Orlando Magic in 1996.
After his NBA career, Bonner played extensively overseas, including stops in Italy for Virtus Bologna, in Greece for PAOK Thessaloniki, in Turkey for Galatasaray, in Spain for Tau Cerámica, Breogán, and CB Valladolid.
He also played in Russia for UNICS Kazan, in Argentina for Peñarol de Mar del Plata, and in Puerto Rico for Brujos de Guayama, Leones de Ponce, Capitanes de Arecibo, and Maratonistas de Coamo.
He won a Spanish Cup with Cerámica in 1999, was a Greek League All-Star in 1996, and captured two BSN championships in Puerto Rico (2002, 2004). Bonner also played in the CBA, earning an All-Star selection in 2004.
